Gabrielle Ruiz is a Mexican-American stage and television actress. She was born on December 1984 to Eduardo and Sylvia Ruiz in Edinburg, TX where she studied dance at a very young age. Ruiz attended the Melba's School of Dance in McAllen, Texas and later received a ballet scholarship to go to the Texas Association for Teachers of Dance summer convention. She also had vocal lessons and was classically trained by the late David Custer of San Antonio, Texas. In 2007 she studied at Oklahoma City University's Ann Lacy School of Dance and Arts Management where she received a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Dance Performance. From there she went on to land various roles on television and particularly Broadway where she made a name for herself on stage. In between her acting gigs Ruiz teaches, judges dancing competitions and does motivational speaking on the performance arts. At the end of July 2016, Ruiz married Philip Pisanchyn on the Caribbean island of St. Martin. She currently stars as Valencia Perez on The CW networks musical comedy "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend".
While in college, Gabrielle Ruiz did summer stock with future castmate David Hull and the two became good friends. In an interview with Stage Door Dish.com, Ruiz mentioned she and Hull had a special agreement with each other:
We actually had a pact in college that if we weren’t married by 30, we would get married and have kids, because we thought 30 was so old in college. I’m not going to tell you how old I am, but let’s just say it didn’t work out. I’m engaged, but David was like ‘Technically you’re mine.’ We tell people because we think it’s funny, but then people look at us like we’re weird and crazy. We thought it was brilliant.
