Gina Gallego is an American actress of Mexican descent known primarily for her work in television. Gallego was born in Los Angeles, California on October 30, 1955 to parents Maria and George Gallego. She grew up in Brentwood and West L.A. attending University High School where she joined the theater club. After graduating she honed her craft under the tutelage of such talents as Gary Austin (founder of The Groundlings) and Jose Quintero (notable theatre director). Her Hollywood career began when the Alvarado Talent Agency discovered her and got her cast in Franco Zefferilli's "The Champ". A string of roles on several television shows were to follow leading to perhaps her best known role as "Santana Andrade" on the NBC soap opera "Santa Barbera". She played the role off and on from 1984 to 1987 also appearing in a five episode arc in 1989 for a total of 142 episodes. Gellago also appeared in films such as "Erin Brokovich" and "Anger Management". She married actor Joel Bailey in 1983 and together they have a son named Brendan. Gallego currently portrays "Mrs.Hernandez" on The CW musical comedy "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. |
