Showtime is an American premium cable and satellite television. It was launched July 1, 1976 and expanded from being a Viacom owned exclusive single cable channel in California with 55,000 subscribers eventually transforming into a an eight channel brand owned by CBS with a national base of subscribers numbering around 28.516 million. It's sister services include The Movie Channel and Flix. Programming for the network was originally just theatrically released motion pictures before and a few network specials including comedy and sporting events. Showtime eventually started producing original content such as "Ray Donovan", "Masters of Sex" and "Homeland". In 2014 Showtime commissioned a pilot episode of "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend" form the show creators Rachel Bloom and Aline Brosh McKenna. On February 9, 2015 they decided to pass on the project allowing Bloom and McKenna to shop the show around until they found a home for it on The CW network on May 7, 2015.
